meet the family
The Grandmother
My mother has lived with Parkinson’s Disease for about 25 years. Prior to her illness my mother was an amazing cook, baker, decorator, friend, aunt, swimmer and would ride all of the scary rides at the amusement parks. She was an incredible party hostess, she wrapped beautiful presents, did make-up for everyone’s weddings, school plays, cut people’s hair, rode horses, painted, wallpapered rooms, fixed phone jacks. She was that person who did everything for everyone. And now she can’t wipe her own ass.
The Grandfather
My father is my mother’s main caretaker. He is an only child of Italian parents. He can not sit still, to the point if I see him sleeping I think he is dead and yell his name. If he worked in an office now he would be sued for harassment and a buffet of other inappropriate things. He has a deranged sense of humor, smokes cigars and thinks everyone is trying to hoodwink him. He likes to shop at Aldi’s and his favorite hobbies are Vegas and horse races.
The Husband
My husband is either the kindest man alive or an idiot. He is the tech man of the house and has a running list of all passwords for 5 other people who can’t remember them. He is also very handy, owns every tool imaginable, goes to Home Depot on the daily! And if not there - then Lowe’s. He is a kind father who needs his naps and football on Sundays. He has defected to liking the Bills so he is not beaten up by their Mafia who are everywhere in The ROC.
The Daughter
She is an agro tween. She did not want to leave LA but she was compensated with a pair of kittens. She has inherited her grandfather’s twisted sense of humor. She has never giggled but observes things and then decides if she thinks it’s funny. Currently she sleeps with a cat head on as well as a tail attached to her waist.
The Son
He is 9 and we have recently discovered he needs to wear deodorant.Young bodies are changing bringing new emotions and hair discoveries in the darndest places. My son has an amazing giggly laugh, he is kind to all people and every teacher he has wishes all the boys behaved like him in class. It has been commented by teachers he embodies the true spirit of Christ…which is interesting since I am his mother.
Me
I moved back home after 30 years of time split between Brooklyn and LA. I work remotely in the entertainment business. I am just trying to get from moment to moment between working 12 hour days and trying to have some semblance of a life and all of the kid crap from their schools it is a real journey. All this and dealing with our “renters” in the basement.
